TRECVid Search Information Retrieval

The master's thesis deals with Information Retrieval. It summarizes the knowledge in the field of Information Retrieval theory. Furthermore, the work gives an overview of models used in Information Retrieval, the data and the actual issues and their possible solutions. The practical part of the master's thesis is focused on the implementation of methods of information retrieval in textual data. The last part is dedicated to experiments validating the implementation and its possible improvements.
Information Support of Project Teams

The aim of the diploma thesis is to outline the possibilities of information support of project teams by an Informational Specialist. The theoretical part introduces different project management methodologies and further specifies the individual project phases as seen by PMBoK methodology. In the chapters focusing on each of the phases of a project, all necessary input sources as well as all output documents that are essential for the project to move on to its next phase are defined and elaborated on. This part is followed by a description of possibilities of information support for working with information sources and creating output documents with regard to competencies, which an Information Specialist should have. Key in this respect is the third and the fourth chapter, including specific proposals on the possibility of information support of a project team by an Information Specialist. The practical part is focused on the role of an Information Specialist in the implementation of a specific project in a company - in particular, a major financial institution on the Czech market. While the theoretical part is based on the study of literature, the practical part is mainly based on personal consultation with a Project Manager of the company.
Research Methods of Information Behavior

The bachelour thesis discusses research methods of information behaviour. The introduction of this work reviews information behaviour in terms of information: need, request, seeking and search. The body introduces basic theories and models which were created at the time of studies of the mentioned subject. The core of the thesis examines methods of research based on three basic approaches: sociological, psychological and from discipline HCI. This review also consists of details on specific methods of information behaviour such as, transaction log analysis or citation analysis. Besides each method there are described advantages and disadvantages which determine the methods being applied. Historical film as information source and the comparison to its literature rendition

The bachelor thesis focus on the definition of information (the importance of information in general, information in books), then it will consider the characteristics of the film and its historical significance from the perspective of the viewer. As the subject of examination, on which the thoughts and findings will be demonstrated, is chosen the important English King- Henry VIII., who has been depicted in many movies and about whom there were written many books as well. Primarily the bachelor work focus on the historical accuracy of the movies and books, the comparison of the importance of both the media (what information value both media provide). The bachelor thesis also aims on the general perception of movies and whether the examined work are quality and accurate source of information. In conclusion, there will be the comparison of the information value of these two selected media.

For the management of any company, information is important in the managing and decision-making processes, especially when it comes to processes and activities associated with the marketing support of our products and services offered. Marketing-driven company applies marketing knowledge, techniques and methods in overall strategic decision-making with the help of marketing information system.
Nurses'information behaviour

This bachelor thesis deals with nurses' information behaviour working in the Institue for Clinical and Experimental Medicine at the Clinic for Anesthetics and Intensive Care. It focuses on why and how the nurses look for information related to their field and how they work with the information afterwards. It briefly outlines the characteristics of the institute and it gives a description of nursing and the nurses' job. Then, it points out nurses' motivation to find information and their orientation in information sources. The research was realised in the form of qualitative structured interviews with the nurses. The conclusion of this thesis is dedicated to the summary of the found information, it answers the defined research questions and evaluates the information provision in practice.
